Man Utd urged to make more signings
Manchester United cannot afford to put their feet up when Bruno Fernandes arrives and must make more signings, claims former England winger Sue Smith.
“I think Man United probably need a little bit more than just a creative midfielder,” Smith said during an appearance on Sky Sports News on Wednesday.
“But I do think he will be a great addition, I think he’s something that is exactly what Manchester United need. There’s been games this season where I’ve watched United and they need that player that can break down a team that’s going to sit back and defend and make it difficult.
“He’s got three fantastic forward players there, the likes of [Marcus] Rashford, [Anthony] Martial and Dan James, and they’ve got that pace and they’ve got that quality and creativity. But if a team sits back and there’s no space in-behind, you need somebody who’s going to be creative and break those teams down. [Paul] Pogba can do it but there’s not been enough of that.
“So I think he will certainly add to what Manchester United need but you’d think United maybe need another centre-back, I think they probably do. I also think they probably need another centre-forward, just something a bit different to what they’ve got at the moment.”

Liverpool exit ruled out
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is unwilling to consider the prospect of Xherdan Shaqiri leaving Anfield in the winter transfer window.
The Swiss winger has been targeted by Roma as they look for a creative player to make up for Nicolo Zaniolo’s injury lay-off.
However, they’l have to go looking elsewhere with the Mirror reporting Klopp and co. have made clear to Shaqiri’s agent that his client is going nowhere this month.
Shaqiri’s game-time prospects have taken a hit, though, with Takumi Minamino now in the picture and able to deputise for Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane too, when required.

Mauricio Pochettino opens up
Manchester United and Real Madrid managerial target Mauricio Pochettino has opened up on what he thinks are the two best leagues in the world in a hint as to where his next job might be.
Pochettino, while speaking at a LaLiga TV event in London on Wednesday night, said: “Of course football was born here in England but La Liga has amazing football and amazing coaches.
“Today it’s a reference of players, a reference of coaches and the football in the last 20 years that is shown around the world.
“Like a coach, with Gustavo, we always try to be in the best place. I think England and Spain are the two best leagues in the world.”

The former Birmingham hitman has endured a tough start to life on the south coast and Marcelo Bielsa wanted to give him a chance to kickstart his season.
Express Sport understands, however, that Hasenhuttl has put his foot down and told Southampton chiefs they must not accept any offers for the £15m flop.
Southampton, meanwhile, have missed out on a deal for centre-back Marin Pongracic, who’s swapped Red Bull Salzburg for Wolfsburg in a £9m switch.

Tottenham urged to make more signings
Tottenham have been urged to follow up the loan signing of Gedson Fernandes from Benfica by bolstering their defence and attack.
Following the midfielder’s arrival on Wednesday, during a live appearance on talkSPORT, former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison said: “I think it’s good business.
“I think he’s a good, young midfielder, 21, 18 month deal with the option of signing him permanently. But West Ham will probably be gutted because I think they agreed earlier with him but he decided he wanted to go to Tottenham and help them.
“So yeah it’s a great move for Tottenham and it’s something they needed. I think they need to strengthen, not just in midfield, also defensive areas and in particular up front.”

Man Utd’s Bruno Fernandes transfer problem
Manchester United’s raid on Sporting Lisbon is being held up as the Portuguese side weigh up who they’ll accept as part of a swap deal for Bruno Fernandes.
Express Sport understands Joel Pereira, Marcos Rojo and Angel Gomes were all offered to Sporting, while O Jogo report United have considered sending Andreas Pereira to Lisbon too.
Sporting are said to have turned down the chance to sign Joel Pereira and decided against taking Rojo back because it would be too costly due to his hefty salary.
That’s left Gomes and Andreas Pereira as potential makeweights with the former emerging as the favourite but no agreement in place as Sporting consider what to do.

Liverpool target Kylian Mbappe wants Real Madrid move
Real Madrid are Kylian Mbappe’s “dream” club and he could push to leave Paris Saint-Germain for the Bernabeu at the end of the current season.
Amid talk of a potential move to Liverpool, when asked if Mbappe would leave in the summer French football expert Julien Laurens told ESPN FC: “It pains me to say it, but there’s a possibility, even a big possibility. PSG are really pushing hard to sign Mbappe to a new deal.
“They want to secure him for at least one year. But, there’s a chance that he goes in the summer. That’s his dream, to play for Real Madrid and play for Zinedine Zidane. It will happen at some point, will it happen this summer? I’m hoping it will be one more year.”
Liverpool had been tipped to launch a move for Mbappe when their new kit deal with Nike starts, as the sportswear manufacturers sponsor the Frenchman too.

Arsenal identify two defensive targets
Arsenal have put two names at the top of their wish list of potential defensive signings after the start to Mikel Arteta’s reign was hit by a backline injury crisis.
The Sun report Paris Saint-Germain full-back Layvin Kurzawa is a target as Emirates chiefs believe he could be landed on the cheap given his contract expires in the summer.
Kurzawa could stand in for the injured Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac at left-back, while adding an option for central defence is also a priority.
The Sun claim Getafe’s Djene Dakonam is being chased by the Gunners having forged a reputation as one of La Liga’s top defenders over the past few seasons.

Chelsea chiefs want Jadon Sancho
Chelsea chiefs Roman Abramovich and Marina Granovskaia have specifically identified Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho as a target for the January transfer window.
Express Sport previously revealed the Blues’ interest in bringing the boyhood Chelsea fan back to London following a stellar couple of years in Germany.
Now Reach PLC’s Transfer Window podcast host Duncan Castles has explained: “My understanding is the club, i.e. Roman Abramovich and Marina Granovskaia, are very keen on taking Sancho. They’re keen on making a statement signing now that they are able to work in the transfer market again and have a lot of resource to spend in this window.
“They see taking a young England international, who has very high status in England because of what he’s achieved at Borussia Dortmund and in the national team, as a good way to go forward.”
